Our story
Forget-Me-not Flora began its days as a bit of a pipe dream that was then hurtled forwards into a reality after a couple of devastating losses.
In April 2023 I sadly lost the one person that had given me everything in my childhood and younger life, my comforter, my emotional support and most of all my best Friend – my dear Mum, my love for her was so strong but I knew she was no longer in pain.
I was making ends meet in a job that was going nowhere (but with some of the best people around!) constantly fantasising about working from home and being my own boss, it was my favourite pastime. Whilst trying to cope with the deepest grief of losing Mum I tried to come to terms with the change in our very close family. However sometimes life has a way of putting our strengths to the test, and 3 weeks after losing Mum I returned home from work to find my Husband and Soul Mate of 26 years had unexpectedly passed away at home. I cannot even to begin to explain the pain!
Obviously within a short space of time I was arranging yet another funeral. I am extremely lucky to have the greatest emotional and financial support but what struck me hard is that EVERYTHING was so very very expensive. i understand prices have risen across the board in recent years but I couldn’t help but to think of the people who cannot afford even the smallest simplest wreath or posy for their loved ones final journey. I cannot change the cost of funerals as a whole and it is probable that there are many hidden costs that I know nothing about, but I CAN help EVERYONE to be able to afford a floral show of love and appreciation to someone they will miss forever. This train of thought soon expanded to Brides, Prom Belles, Mother’s Day gifts etc. I am not about trying to undercut and steal customers from other florists, but my ethos is and always will be: EVERYONE deserves beautiful things at a price they can afford!
“What’s In a Name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.”
– William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
What’s In a Name! – Forget-Me-Not Flora
Have you seen the little blue Forget me nots popping up whilst the other plants are still sleeping? These small but robust flowers are popular in Bridal bouquets as they historically symbolise true love, respect, fidelity and devotion. They are given as a pledge to never forget someone and to think of them often.
Those we love will never be forgotten! “Those who have died still live on the lips of the living.” – Gloria Hunniford.
The cutest little flowers have 5 beautiful petals all equally important in its devotional bloom, for me these symbolise my 5 absolute rocks, my driving forces, my children who I love with all my heart.
And then there is Flora!!!!
Well she was a Roman Goddess, known for her strength, nurturing and re-growth, she stands at the head of Spring and all flowering plants. And even her name is Latin for flower! How could anyone not want to aspire to such a dominant figure of femininity?
And so that is why Forget-Me-Not Flora is now part of our Family!
“From start to finish, working with Zulima was pleasant and stress free. The florals for the wedding were perfect and beyond what we could have imagined.”
